INTRODUCTION

Kuching North City Hall (KNCH) Orchid Garden was originally situated at Pangkalan Sapi  on a site of about 6.8 acres and was completed and open to the public in 1994.  However, in 2003 the site was demolished so as to make way for the building of the new Sarawak State Assembly Complex.  In the meantime orchids from the Orchid Garden were moved to KNCH Nursery at Jalan Depo.  .

KNCH current Orchid Park on a site of about 15.4 acres is situated next to Astana Negeri and Sarawak State Assembly Complex. Construction of the Orchid Park started on 1st December  2007 and was completed and open to the public on 5th May 2009. The opening ceremony for the Orchid Park was graced by Yang Amat Berhormat Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, Chief Minister of Sarawak on 5th March 2010.

The Orchid Park houses various Orchid types and colors ranging from Hybrid to Epiphytic and Terrestrial species planted under the shade or in the open spaces. A total of about 75,000 orchid plants and 65 genera can be found at the Orchid Park.  The main attraction of the Orchid Park is the Borneo Orchid collection which is famous for its beautiful flowers and of potential to become a horticultural plant.
