KUCHING: The dirty and mismanaged environment is affecting the scenery and attracting uninvited migrants such as flies, rats and Aedes mosquitoes. Kampung Ajibah Abol is in such a situation and because of that, it has become the latest place to see a dengue outbreak.

Numerous dengue cases have been reported. The first and second cases were reported on May 13 and the following day, a dengue outbreak was declared.

Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) director Dr Morshidi Ahmad and other officials from the DBKU came to inspect the village where 38 people have been infected and are under medical care.

Until May, the number of dengue cases recorded in Kuching division was 241 in the Kuching district and 93 in DBKU areas.

Authorities have stressed on prevention measures, which includes promoting clean compounds that are free of containers and receptacles that Aedes mosquitoes can use for breeding.

They also encourage homeowners to fix nets on their house’s doors and windows to keep mosquitoes out.

In areas where cases are registered, fogging is being carried out by DBKU or the Health Ministry.
