KUCHING: Hidden cameras will be installed along the Kuching Waterfront at strategic points by Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) to identify people who throw rubbish indiscriminately in the area.
The measure is part of the efforts by the commission to clamp down on litterbugs said Kuching North City Commission Datuk Bandar Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai when he visited the area yesterday.
He said DBKU will not impose fines or summons on the offenders as it will initially focus on educating the public to be civic minded and responsible.

“We are talking about attitude and such attitude is unbecoming of people in the city.
“I say this because every time when the musical fountain show ended, we can see all sorts of rubbish left behind at the site. We hope to change their bad habit using some form of enforcement.”
Abang Abdul Wahap said DBKU will be deploying a surveillance team to patrol the site during these shows as part of the enforcement effort.
He advised visitors to the area to be decent and emulate the attitude of Koreans and Japanese in managing their rubbish.
