KUCHING, March 31: Disinfection operations to curb the spread of Covid-19 were actively carried out at several high-risk or red zone areas today.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) assistant director (operations) PgKB I Tiong Ling Hii led operations with his firefighters at Good News Fellowship Church, Jalan Lapangan Terbang and its surrounding area today.

Entrusted with the task by Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), Ministry of Health (KKM) and local councils, Bomba conducted the operations to break the chain of infection.

“A total of 27 personnel took part in this morning’s operation which started at 10am at Good News Fellowship Church. Together with us were KKM and Kuching South City Council (MBKS) personnel. Our target is to sanitise areas that the public will usually touch or go to.

“The operations are ongoing, on a daily basis. We will finalise the venue one day before, based on our discussions with local councils, with the advice from KKM,” Tiong said.

He explained that Bomba could not sanitise every single corner or every public place, so their main focus are areas that has positive Covid-19 cases.

If there are special requests from the community, Bomba will seek advice from KKM.

Currently, for Sarawak, they are concentrating on Kuching as it is categorised as a red zone.

Similar operations are also being conducted in Miri, Bintulu, Sibu, Sarikei but on a smaller scale, depending on the status of positive cases.

“Members of the public are much more aware about Covid-19, the Movement Order Control (MCO), and disinfection operations. Our operations are also meant to inform, educate and give confidence to the public that the government cares by putting all sorts of efforts into curbing Covid-19.

“As we all know, the MCO has been extended to April 14, therefore I hope that everyone will cooperate, follow the order, and help the government to curb it (Covid-19) as fast as possible,” Tiong added.

Meanwhile, another team led by Sarawak Bomba director Khirudin Drahman conducted similar operations with KKM and DBKU at RHB Bank Satok and Wisma Satok outer ring areas this morning.
