KUCHING: The Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) has introduced ‘plogging’ (picking up rubbish while jogging or walking) as another initiative to ensure that the city remains clean.

According to Kuching North Datuk Bandar Datu Junaidi Reduan, this serves to raise awareness among the public of the importance on taking care of the environment.

On DBKU’s ‘plogging’ programme, he said it should be initiated by the DBKU staff before being extended to the public.

“Under the programme, every DBKU staff member will be supplied with a plastic garbage bag, to be carried everywhere, in order to cultivate the ‘you see litter, you pick it up’ mindset,” he said after performing the symbolic handover of plastic bags during a special assembly at DBKU Auditorium here yesterday.

Assistant Minister in Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, DBKU director Dr Morshidi Ahmad and deputy principal director Mohamed Khaidir Abang were among those present at the assembly.

In his speech, Dr Abdul Rahman said he wanted all members of DBKU workforce to continue their excellent performance in the management of the commission.

“It is undeniable that the administration/management of DBKU is the most admirable amongst all local authorities in Sarawak.

“It is hoped that the DBKU staff would strive to uphold this excellent
working culture so that they can be on par with the city councils in well-developed countries,” he said.

Also during the special assembly, Dr Abdul Rahman presented awards to those who had served in DBKU for 25 years and more, and also certificates of appreciation to its retired personnel.
