KUCHING: The drainage system project which is being built will address flash flood problems in the city when its final phase is expected to be completed in November next year, said Kuching North City Hall ( DBKU) Mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai.
He said the flash floods that occurred last week here were due to the on- going construction of the third phase of the system which had prevented water from flowing out compounded by the high amount of water due to heavy rain.
“I am confident that the flash flood problems in Kuching will be resolved when the drainage system construction is completed,” he said on DBKU's Integrity and Innovation Day and 2018 DBKU Occupational Safety and Health Day here yesterday.
On smoking ban campaign at coffee shops, Abdul Wahap said the initiative would be enforced from January 1 next year.
He said the response from restaurants operators was very positive in a joint effort to provide a more conducive environment for their customers.
The ceremony was officiated by the Minister in the Chief Minister's Office ( Integrity and Ombudsment) Datuk Talip bin Zulpilip. — Bernama
