CCTV resolutions to be upgraded to fight vandalism
Posted on : 20 May 2022  Source of News: ThenewSarawakTribune

THE Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) and Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) will upgrade the resolutions of existing closed circuit cameras (CCTVs) at the Kuching Waterfront.

Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said this was part of measures taken to prevent vandalism and destruction to property in the city.

“The existing CCTV resolution at Kuching Waterfront is quite low, I would recommend that SMA help DBKU improve the resolution so that those who commit misconduct can be identified easily.

“It can help the police track down individuals involved, such as face-tracking identifications that are used in some parts of the country,” he told a press conference at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) media room today

Dr Abdul Rahman was commenting on the recent vandalism case at the Kuching Waterfront fountain.

He went on to say that the Friendly Neighbourhood Programme would continue and appealed to the community to be the eyes and ears in the fight against vandalism.

“The public is urged to instantly report to the law enforcement authorities so that immediate action can be taken,” he said.

According to Abdul Rahman, the anticipated cost of losses as a result of vandalism from 2020 to May 2022 was RM332,000 in areas under DBKU jurisdiction.

“This includes damage to ditch covers, road signs, bridge and river bank railings, bus stop seats and roofs and street lights,” he said.
