DBKU-MBKS-MPP to form joint committee
Posted on : 06 Sep 2019  Source of News: Sarawak Tribune

KUCHING: Kuching city councils — DBKU and MBKS and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) will work together on common issues through a joint committee. The formation of the committee comprising commissioners and councillors from DBKU and MBKS was  proposed by MBKS new mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng after taking his oath of office on Tuesday.

The committee will function as a bridge between the councils, thus allowing them to identify and subsequently manage common issues. DBKU new mayor Datuk Junaidi Reduan said he supported the proposal, adding that it would be extended to the MPP.

“The border between MPP and DBKU is so near where the areas after Emart Matang are under the responsibility of the MPP. We also have Padungan area and beyond that are MBKS areas.

“Thus, we have to work together. There is no such thing as DBKU is DBKU, MBKS is MBKS… we have to work together,” he told at a press conference after taking
his oath as mayor at DBKU building here, yesterday. The ceremony was witnessed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Junaidi said the three councils could meet soon to discuss the formation of the joint committee. “But as far as I’m concerned, we have to sit down with the council members first. We have to set our priorities right.

“This is because when it comes to our vision, mission and objective, it is not a one-person decision…it is a collective decision and responsibility…so I have yet to sit down with the Dewan members and chart our direction,” he pointed out.

On his appointment, Junaidi asserted that he would do his best to continue Wahap’s legacy (his predecessor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai) and to focus on ensuring Kuching to be a better city, not just for the citizens but also visitors to the city.
