DBKU doing its best to tackle dirty toilets: Mayor
Posted on : 18 Aug 2019  Source of News: Sarawak Tribune

KUCHING: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) has always seriously looked into the issue of dirty toilets and dirty habits and is doing its best to address it in its Kuching CBS (Clean, Beautiful, Safe, Smart and Sustainable) under the Enhancement Plan 2019 to 2023.

Mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai stated this when commenting on Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s recent statement on public toilets.

The prime minister had said he was embarrassed by the dirty and smelly state of public toilets in the country which reflected the poor civic responsibility of Malaysians.

Dr Mahathir made the comment at the launch of the national-level civics education for schools organised by the Education Ministry at Puspanitapuri in Putrajaya on August 13.

“Recently, the tenders for two new modern and smart toilet facilities at the Kuching Waterfront and the northern entrance to the Darul Hana Bridge near the Astana have been issued,” he told New Sarawak Tribune when contacted yesterday.

Wahap said these toilets were scheduled to be completed in August next year.

He explained that DBKU had been grading all public toilets to ensure that they were always clean.

“With that, we hope that all facilities under DBKU’s jurisdiction will get at least one star out of four stars,” he added.
