DBKU enforcement officers dismantle and seize foldable canopies at a parking area in Satok yesterday.

KUCHING: Stubborn traders who had erected illegal folding canopies at commerical carparks and by the roadsides despite repeated notices issued were given the boot by Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) enforcement officers here yesterday.

According to DBKU, they have identified at least 10 premises in areas under their jurisdiction who ignored the repeated number of notice(s) that were issued to them.

By erecting such canopies, DBKU said such traders have contravened Section 22 of the Buildings Ordinance 1994 for erecting a movable shed without permission.

On another note, DBKU also warned traders not to erect illegal canopies especially when the Gawai and Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations are just around the corner.

According to them, such canopies at carparks or roadsides will take up some spaces and thus reduce the number of available carparks for the public and thus a nuisance to motorists.
