Environmental award presented to 36 recipients

KUCHING: A total of 36 entities and individuals have received the Chief Minister’s Environmental Award (CMEA) 2017/2018.

The award themed “Nurturing Environmental Stewardship” organised by the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) and Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) was aimed at providing independent evaluation of their environmental commitment, and to recognise the achievements of participants.

This year a total of 99 entries were received, of which 42 went under the main CMEA category, while 57 were under the new Food and Eateries category.

The other categories included Large Enterprise, Medium Industries, Small Industries, Local Authorities, and Individual and Journalists.

Out of the 36 recipients, nine received the Merit Awards, 16 received Gold Awards, and 11 received Champion Awards.

The champions are Shin Yang Trading Sdn Bhd (Linau Forest Management Unit), Press Metal Bintulu Sdn Bhd, Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd, Sime Darby Austral Sdn Bhd, Wargana Consortium Sdn Bhd, Fly Technology Agriculture Sdn Bhd, Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), Jinhold Restaurant, Payung Café, Min’s Café and Cecelia Sman from The Borneo Post.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg was present at the award presentation ceremony held at Imperial Hotel on Wednesday night.

NREB environmental quality controller Peter Sawal, Sarawak Business Federation (SBF) president Datuk Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg, Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Datuk Sri Michael Manyin, Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Lee Kim Shin, and Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datu Len Talif Salleh were also present.
