KUCHING (Sept 29): Maine Coon Mr Kiron was officially crowned the Kuching North City Commission’s (DBKU) cat ambassador yesterday during the Kuching International Cat Festival (KICF) 2025.

The festival featured over 240 cats of various breeds from Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, China, Vietnam, and Indonesia.

The special title recognises Mr Kiron’s outstanding achievement as national champion at the World Cat Show for four consecutive years since 2022.

His latest title was at the World Cat Show in Bangkok, Thailand last May.

Dayang Norjihan Abdul Rahman Zohari, daughter of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, officiated at the launch of the Kiron Cat Club Malaysia, of which she is patron, and the closing ceremony of KICF 2025.

Among those present at the closing ceremony were Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Commission and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi and Kuching North datuk bandar Datuk Hilmy Othman.

The festival attracted thousands of visitors, particularly for the Live Cat Parade on Saturday involving some 40 felines.

Festival activities included My Cat Expo, Cat Grooming Demonstrations, Cat Dance Competition, Cat Fashion Show, as well as busker performances.
