KUCHING: Karnival Kejiranan Mesra (KJM) benefits youths as it encourages participation in social and sports activities.

Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman said the KJM which is being held over this weekend at Padang Merdeka, is therefore a good avenue for them.

Abdul Rahman  represented Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at the launching of the Karnival Kejiranan Mesra (KJM) today.

He also said that KJM has a slight advantage compared to other non-governmental ogranisations (NGO) because  KJM is supported by Kuching North City Commission (DBKU).

“The difference is the added and continuous support given by DBKU to assist and provide guidance. This is a positive collaboration and an advantage to KJM.

“Other organisations would need to work hard to acquire the necessary funds to organise events such as these. They depend on their own initiatives.

“I hope that the KJM organising committee will take the opportunity to hold more programmes and activities next year as long as it benefits the welfare of the community”, he added.

KJM a brainchild of the Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud was launched in 2001, and is currently implemented in 48 areas under the DBKU jurisdiction.

Among the activities held at the KJM in Padang Merdeka this year were futsal and Kuching Cyclefest, communal sports such as Silat and Traditional Gasing Competitions and DBKU services like DBKU On the Move and DBKU Garden Sales.
