KUCHING: Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) is keeping eatery operators on their toes to ensure cleanliness remains at an optimum level in their premises.

It has among others stressed the need to tackle the possibility of water-borne diseases stemming from the breeding of cockroaches, flies and mice.

In a statement yesterday DBKU said in addition, it is also emphasising on good food handling and the health status of food handlers.

Towards this end it said it will continue monitoring and enforcement work to ensure all licensing requirements from the aspect of health and hygiene of food premises are complied with.

Operations with the Ministry of Health are also carried out from time to time to ensure these premises meet the standard of cleanliness.

“DBKU hopes that all traders are more responsible in maintaining food hygiene by complying with the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 and advises customers to choose clean premises and make a complaint to DBKU if there is unsatisfactory food hygiene.

“Food premises owners who are found to be in violation of regulatory standards as well as critical elements involving hygiene and health issues will be issued a notice.

“In addition, they will also be given guidance in order to improve cleanliness at their respective premises.”

Any violation of the provisions of the Kuching Municipal Council (Licensing of Miscellaneous Occupations) By-Law, 1961 and the Kuching Rural District Council (Licensing of Miscellaneous Occupations) By-Law, 1961 may result in prosecution.
