DBKU to host Apoc 13 at BCCK July 22-28

KUCHING: The 13th Asia Pacific Orchid Conference (Apoc 13) will be held here for the first time from July 22 to 28.

Hosted by the Kuching North City Hall Commission (DBKU) and supported by the state government, the prestigious event would be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

The conference will feature several orchid competitions namely the Orchid Landscape, Individual Orchid Plants, Container Garden and Flower Arrangement.

The competitions are open to members of the public on complimentary basis and attractive prizes are offered for each category.

Prizes for the Container Garden Competition are available for two categories.

Category A is for orchids only while Category B is open to orchids with ornamental plants and decorations.

The first prize winner of either category will receive RM1,000 and a plaque while the second and third prize winners will win RM800 and a plaque and RM500 and a plaque, respectively.

The Malaysia’s Academic Institution Orchid Landscape Competition is open to all local institutions such as universities, colleges and schools.

The first prize winner will get RM1,000 and a plaque while the second and third prize winners will receive RM700 and a plaque and RM500 and a plaque, respectively.

The Flower Arrangement Competition requires participants to compete in two categories namely the hand bouquet or table arrangement (Category 1) and photo frame arrangement or hanging arrangement or floor up arrangement (Category 2).   The first prize winner will get RM2,000 and a plaque while the second prize winner will get RM 1,000 and a plaque. The third prize winner will receive RM500 and a plaque. Three consolation prize winners will each get RM150 and a certificate.

Individuals and organisations interested to compete for the Container Garden Competition, Malaysia’s Academic Institution Orchid Landscape and the Flower Arrangement Competition are invited to register before May 31.

Another competition available is the Individual Orchid Plant Competition. It offers prizes for Best In Section (RM500 and a plaque), Best Hybrid In Show (RM2,500 and a plaque), Best Species In Show (RM2,500 and a plaque) with the Grand Champion walking away with RM5,000 and a plaque.

Ribbons are awarded for first, second and third placing within classes. The closing date of participation for this competition is on July 22.

These competitions will take place on July 22 and judging will be on July 23 at BCCK.
