CM picks Wee as MBKS mayor, Junaidi as Datuk Bandar, Ting as SMC chairman |

Dato Wee Hong Seng
KUCHING: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) commission member Dato Wee Hong Seng has been picked to helm Kuching South City Council (MBKS), succeeding Dato James Chan.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg announced Wee’s appointment as Kuching South mayor during a press conference at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, here yesterday.

He also announced the appointments of Datu Junaidi Reduan as Kuching North Datuk Bandar and Clarence Ting as Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman, replacing Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai and Datuk Tiong Thai King, respectively.
The current term of Chan, Abang Abdul Wahap and Tiong expires on Aug 31.
Chan has been mayor since 2008, while Abang Abdul Wahap has helmed DBKU since 2011. Tiong, who is Dudong assemblyman, has been SMC chairman since 2004.
Clarence Ting
Chan was the second non-political appointee to head MBKS after his predecessor, the late Chong Ted Tsiung. Wee is a member of Sarawak United People’s Party.
As for Abang Abdul Wahap, he served as Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner from 2002 to 2005 and was federal Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director before retiring from the police force in 2007.
Ting, meanwhile, is managing director of Tanahmas Hotel in Sibu. He is also director of Pansar Berhad, Sebuyau Holdings Bhd and Sin Hua Service Sdn Bhd; chairman of Moulin Holdings Sdn Bhd; and managing director of Tebor Sdn Bhd and Ting Ming Hoi Enterprise Sdn Bhd.
