KUCHING: Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) is keeping true to its pledge to go green at its Ramadan bazaars this year, by reminding traders not to use polystyrene containers.

The eco-friendly initiative was adopted in 2018, where DBKU banned the use of polystyrene containers at the Satok, Semarak and Sukma Ria Ramadan bazaars, which were launched simultaneously on the first day of fasting yesterday.

DBKU also reminded the public to bring their own food containers for takeaways when purchasing food items, and advised traders to be aware of where the ingredients for their dishes are sourced from whilst ensuring that the food prepared are clean and safe for consumption.

The Satok Ramandan Bazaar was declared open yesterday by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg. Among those present were Datuk Bandar of Kuching North Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai, Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian and DBKU commissioner Datuk Wee Hong Seng.

Ramadan bazaars are one of the highlights of the fasting month as Muslims and non-Muslims alike flock in search of scrumptious and inexpensive food, such as ‘bubur lambuk’, ‘ayam penyet’, ‘ikan bakar’ and many more.

to must-try delicacies such as ‘tapai madu’ and many more.
