KUCHING, Sept 18: Some of Kuching’s most recognisable landmarks, including the Darul Hana Bridge at the Waterfront, Satok Bridge, Satok Flyover, and the bridge at Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub, will glow in gold on Sept 20 to mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The dazzling display is part of the global #LightItUpGold campaign, aimed at raising awareness and showing solidarity with children battling cancer.

The Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) proudly joins the international initiative, which is held every September under the leadership of Childhood Cancer International (CCI) and the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP), with support in Malaysia from Childhood Cancer Malaysia (CCM).

SCCS president Mary Kiu highlighted that lighting up these landmarks in gold is a powerful reminder that children with cancer and their families are not alone in their journey.

“By coming together as a community, we show our solidarity, raise much-needed awareness, and spread hope that every child deserves the chance to grow up healthy and strong,” she said in a media release today.

SCCS expressed heartfelt appreciation to Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) for partnering in the campaign.

“By illuminating these key landmarks, DBKU ensures that the message of awareness and support resonates across Kuching, reinforcing the city’s commitment to the fight against childhood cancer,” she said.

The gold illumination will light up the city skyline from sunset onwards, inviting residents and visitors alike to join in recognising the courage of children facing cancer and the importance of community support in their journey.

“Together, every photo and message helps amplify hope and strengthen the fight against childhood cancer,” Kiu added.
